Canadian Sport For Life
Long Term Athlete Development
This consultation paper describes a 7-stage Canadian model of Long-Term
Athlete Development (LTAD), a training, competition, and recovery program based
on developmental age - the maturation level of an individual - rather than
chronological age. It is athlete centred, coach driven, and administration,
sport science, and sponsor supported. Athletes who progress through LTAD experience
training and competition in programs that consider their biological and training
ages in creating periodized plans specific to their development needs. |

Canadian Sport For Life
A Sport Parent's Guide
The goal of this booklet is to help you understand the needs of young
athletes and what may be done to promote their best interests in staying active
and healthy. In these pages you will read about Long-Term Athlete Development
(LTAD), a model for development in physical activity and sport that not only
provides a safe, enjoyable, and progressive pathway for children to pursue healthy
physical activity, but also provides a pathway to excellence. |
