BAREFOOT OFFICIALS ACCREDITATION PROCESS

This training is intended to provide the resources to train and validate an official as a regular judge in the barefoot water ski discipline. This training shall be completed by May 1st of the competition year in order to ensure that new officials are available to support the events. Upon successful completion of this training the student shall be accredited as a regular judge in the barefoot waterski discipline.

Materials

Provided: CD/DVD training package, blank judging sheet for copying, Officials Accreditation Form

Required: Blank judging sheets, 10 to 15 per student, 1mm mechanical pencils or sharp HB regular pencils, electronic timer*, TV, DVD player, hard copy of the barefoot rule book.

Getting Started

Invite all potential judges interested in getting person trained. This can include athletes as well. The duration of the training is 4 to 5 hours. An accredited instructor shall administer this program. The listing is available on the WSWC website.

Training Process

  1. 1. Review the layout of the judging sheet and how information should be recorded on it.
  2. 2. Review the key elements for slalom & tricks of the Canadian rulebook which is included on the CD provided or available from the WSWC website.
  • Slalom:
    1 or 2 foot cross
    Forwards or backwards
    Partial crosses
    2 same direction passes
  • Tricks
    Starts
    Preparatory tricks
    Shorthand symbols
    Flyers defined
    Repeat tricks
A reverse must follow basic trick
    Surface turns-rotations
1 foot starts- planted foot must remain clear of the water
    Tumble turn rotations
  • Re-rides
Reasons allowed; boat speed, boat path, coarse obstacles (rollers), No timer (go to video), start pull speed.
  • Turn Around Times: Learn how to apply them.

    Watching the DVD

Watch the full 3 passes (first slalom, then tricks later on in the training) of the first 2 skiers with the students. Get them used to seeing the pass, using the judging sheet and understanding how to apply the timer. Oversee their progress. On the 3rd skier have them try and judge the pass in real time. Then work with the students on the next two pass runs, with time and at slow motion. Analyze the performance and ensure the judging shorthand is being applied properly. Go on to each of the next skiers, judging their passes in the same way.

    After the Training is Completed

Complete the Officials Accreditation Form and forward it to WSWC, cc: Paul Macdonald. This information will be used to update the master officials listing on the WSWC website. Provide the participants with a certificate of completion.
