Barefoot Nationals Recap
September 6, 2013
August 16-18 saw three days of competition, perfect weather, perfect site, fabulous hosts, live band, fireworks and barefoot skiers from across Canada came together at Dream Lake just outside Napanee Ontario. It was one of the best Barefoot Nationals the skiers have ever seen. Skier performances rose to the occasion. Ross Holden, the oldest competitor at 70 years old set new Canadian Records in slalom and tricks in the Mens 8 division with scores that matched skiers half his age! Duane Godfrey set a pending record in tricks. While no records were set in the jump event, record crowds were on hand to watch and were treated to some amazing jumps by all skiers including George Weekes’ huge 22.2m jump off the 18” high ramp!
Clinching his first Canadian National Barefoot Championship title George Weekes swept the Open Mens category with a victory in slalom tricks and jump. Becky Moynes, barefooter and also the organizer of this year’s event, claimed her first championship title in the Open Womens category.
